Finch will be played by John Carlson. The heart of the story is his young daughter, Scout, played by nine year old Zoey Dittmer. “She’s smart as a whip, and her mother taught the novel,” says Obradovich. “I love that Atticus doesn’t talk down to the kids. He treats them as equals as much as he can.” She is thrilled with her young actors, Zoey, Aiden Schmidtke, who plays her older brother Jem Finch, and Will Jones, who plays their friend Dill Harris (Harper Lee modeled Dill on her childhood friend, Truman Capote). While young, all three are talented, experienced actors.

In addition to a strong cast, Obradovich has lined up a talented group of designers, including Wes Clowers (who designed the set and plays Heck Tate), Tom Reardon (lighting design), Nancy Ross (costumes) and Dan Baye (who designed and runs sound and will make an appearance as Nathan Radley).

While Harper Lee has been in the news recently with the publication of an earlier draft of her novel, “Go Set a Watchman,” Obradovich has no plans on reading it. “To Kill a Mockingbird” is already perfect. Come see one of the most beloved stories in American literature this November in Bellevue.

“To Kill a Mockingbird” by the Bellevue Little Theatre will run for three consecutive weekends, from November 6 through November 22. Shows are Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30, with Sunday matinees at 2:00. There will be a TAG Nite Out on Thursday, November 5.
